I sat down and was leveling Rogue for the heck of it, and funnily enough the story kept me going. Alongside the hotheaded but intelligent Jacke, the quiet but deadly Underfoot, and the hungry and angry V'kebbe, the player character embarks on a series of detective adventures to bust the shenanigans of Limsa's baddest and most cunning pirate organizations. There's an almost episodic plot where each mission takes the player through individual storylines, with each turn revealing a little bit more about the powers at play in the underworld of Limsa, which ultimately culminates in taking down a radical organization hellbent on act of terrorism against the city and the thalassocracy. Throughout this tale, the player character is exploring the morally grey decisions made by both the Rogues' Guild and the Yellowjackets as both sides seek to use their underworld connections in an attempt to win a competition to see who could bust the most heists. All the while, there exists a Rogue's Code to uphold, which acts as a scale to highlight how much more morally black or white each of the pirate factions is, and is the guiding force of morality for an otherwise unsavory band of assassins and thieves that our player character ends up hanging out with. There's plenty of laughs along the way too mostly via the banter of the lovable Rogue's Guild, just a touch of that FFXIV charm.
I spent the whole day playing through this, and I've felt like I just watched a season of a crime show or something alike. It gives an odd level of depth to the morality of Limsa's underworld, and it's one of the few sequences in the game that makes the world feel lived-in. This story was a blast!
And here's a screenshot of my character and V'kebbe!
