While she is the voice of Hydaelyn, I just don't think her voice has the gravitas to carry another song. As much as I loved her vocal performance in Answers (and in Dragonsong, though that was more because it was a good song rather than her being a good singer), I find her to be a severely limited and mediocre vocalist that is rapidly declining in vocal quality. She emotes and phrases well enough, but her range is and has always been painfully limited and her technical prowess is questionable at best. She strained her voice like absolute hell to hit the climactic "...helpless in our CRIES..." in the bridge of Answers and, as far as I know, has never been able to hit the note properly in a live performance. I point this out not only because the note itself is not high at all and should be easy for any technically trained female to sing (even a deep-voiced contralto, which Susan most certainly is not), but also because she sang that song almost a decade ago. Age has not been kind to her already-limited range based on how strained she sounded from very first "Sing...a song of dawn..." in Revolutions back in 2016-17, and I can't imagine how much her voice will have deteriorated by the time the next expansion rolls around.
Amanda Achen, the singer of Tomorrow and Tomorrow in Shadowbringers, seems to be a better fit in my opinion. She has an enormous range (far larger than Susan's at any point in Susan's life, I'd wager), is very clearly well-trained, has a tone that is arguably just as beautiful as Susan's, and emotes and phrases just as well, if not better. In fact, I feel like any other decently competent singer would fare better than Susan, who I suspect was hired because she was affordable for the company at the time. While it's certainly possible that I may be missing some aspect of her voice that others find appealing, it's difficult for me to believe that such a technically deficient and overall unremarkable singer would be worth anything in an industry with loads of talented vocalists, and I believe Susan's severe lack of popularity on the internet supports this notion.
What are your thoughts? Would you like Susan Calloway to come back, or are you hoping for someone else?
