Here’s my fan concepts for Corsair. It is a pirate themed physical ranged DPS that has a hectic back and forth of swordplay, gunplay, and acrobatics that play into its style rating system. I’m leaving out potencies, and cooldown times for now as these are just broad mechanical concepts.
Filler would consist of a basic three part melee combo, and a walking cast pistol shot. Every time you complete a melee combo, you get a buff that makes your pistol attack instant. However, if you hard cast the pistol shot, you get a buff that increases the potency of the last part of your melee combo. Using instant pistol, and buffed melee attacks increases your swashbuckling rating that goes from Jack, Queen, King, Ace, and Double Ace. AOE would be a two part melee combo that is a circle around the player with a cone AOE pistol attack.
Once Double Ace is achieved, you gain access to additional ranged attacks: Royal Flush for single target, and Full House for AOE. These attacks kick off a double gun phase consisting of two GCDs with a 1.5 second recast time, left gun, and right gun, and two off global attacks, left, and right shot. Starting from Full House the next GCD is a coin flip between left or right gun which grants access to either of the off global left or right shot attacks – also a coin flip. Potencies between left, and right attacks should be the same so that damage is the same no matter the outcome. You have four GCDs to use, and thus four off globals to use – eight coin flips. Rating returns to zero after firing off all shots. Using Full House transforms left/right gun/shots into AOE versions that are line, and cone AOEs.
Corsair has no raid buff. Instead, it has an ability that applies a debuff called Dead Man’s Mark which increases a target’s damage taken from the Corsair for a duration, and grants access to an additional ability that gives the Corsair the Joker rating which reverses the ranges on all of its attacks, melee attacks transform into ranged attacks, and ranged attacks transform into melee attack. Joker counts as Double Ace therefore there will be a coin flip melee phase. Combo-ing double gun or joker sword phases grants a Jackpot finisher.
It should also have a moderate back flip attack that gives you an instant pistol attack, and a dash attack with the same distance as the backflip that buffs a melee attack to add some acrobatics to its gameplay, and to help with getting more Double Ace ratings. Some amount of risk assessment should be taken when using them. It should also have a general purpose movement ability that is not used for damage. Additional gun, and sword cool downs can be added as means for gaining style as well as you would want to be attaining Double Ace fast, and often.
A for fun ability I think Corsair should have is an ability that lets you roll dice to get buff that adds your dice roll to whatever loot you are about to roll on. So if you roll a 6, then a loot roll for 90 becomes a 96. Give it an hour long cooldown that does not reset between instances as a nod to XI. Limit Break could be called something like Phantom Broadside where your character orders a spectral pirate ship to fire off several cannon shots.
