Yoshi P says that turn-based is dead, and yet E33 innovated on that, and showed us just how much potential turn-based systems have. It's turn-based Sekiro, and it is awesome.
And yet, this 30-employee studio has made something far more enjoyable, more visually stunning, and a far more touching and fantastical story than anything Square Enix has made in the last twenty years.
This portends the beginning of the end of some of the AAA industry. AA studios making games like KCD2 and E33 is a threat to the complacency of big companies like Square Enix. Why would you want to pay $70 or $80 for a shitty RPG with boring gameplay and a story full of filler? When you can spend $50 to get a GOTY RPG?
Just saying, Yoshi P, you are wrong about everything and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 shows the depth of your folly. Why would anyone pay $60 to sub for four months to do the same outdated in-out, stack-spread, repetitive gameplay in FF14?
The bright side is, the AA industry shows just how far passion can go. This studio shows just how important good leadership and management is. So much so that a 30-employee studio can make something far better than FF16, FF7R, and FF15 combined. Clearly there is not the same competent leadership at SE.
