Chargeback Ban

So hopefully this helps others who get caught up in this situation. As I was searching the sub, there were a lot of different situations when it came to chargeback bans. I recently just went through it and want to share my experience. I think it touches on what I believe to be almost every issue possible. Took 9 days when it was all said and done.

I have been away from the game for over a year. I decided to come back just last week. I go to log into my account and I'm met with the message it has terminated for various possible reasons and to contact support. At this point, I'm worried I've lost my account because it's been so long, but I go ahead and go through the process and open a ticket letting them know the message I am seeing and what the issue may be.

I get a response at 4:38 AM EST:

Greetings,

We appreciate you replying with the requested information. After looking into the account, it appears there is a chargeback ban on the account. This occurs when your financial institution refunds a charge that you previously made to us. In order, to remove this ban, you must pay back the amount refunded using Crysta. For more information on Crysta, please use the following link:

For the information regarding the chargeback, please reference the information below:

Amount: $15.00 Transaction Date: 11/29/2019 Chargeback Date: 12/27/2019

If you would like to pay this back using Crysta, please reply with the following information:

Agreement (Yes/No):

Once we have your agreement, we can begin the escalation to open the account at the most basic level to allow you to add Crysta to the account. Please note that you will not be able to access the game yet while it is in this state, only the Mog Station. There is no ETA for this process. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

I simply replied Yes I agree. Also, put yes within their email in the reply. Then I waited again.

I get another email at 2:44 PM EST:

Thank you for your reply. We have begun the escalation to unlock the account (do keep this confirmation number (# is here) for your reference). In the next few business days, you will be able to log into the account on the Square Enix Account Management website. At this time, please add the full amount of the chargeback, as detailed in the previous email, to the account. When this is done, we will be able to remove the Crysta and the Chargeback Ban. Please do not use the Crysta before it is taken from the account.

No further action is needed after adding the Crysta to the account.

Unfortunately, there is no ETA for this process as every case is different. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

At this point, I just keep randomly trying to log in to see if my account is unlocked so I could add the Crysta.

I go to log in to my account and I get in. Except I had an OTP connected to my old phone. I had to get that removed as well because I didn't have the emergency removal password. A quick call to the support center (20 mins on hold, 2 mins to confirm I own the account and remove it) and I'm back into the Mog Station. At this point, it's really basic. Just a message that says, "This service account is currently suspended". I find the option to add Crysta, and I go ahead and add it plus more for my sub time I'm eventually going to add once it unlocks. This was the most interesting part to me...

My account was unlocked within about 2 hours after adding the Crysta. I was able to add sub time and get into the game. They didn't take the Crysta at this point for the original 15$ I owed so I held that amount in there as instructed for when they do. But now I finally had full access to my account. At this point (2/20/2021) they have still yet to take the Crysta that I owed. The ban seems to lift before they even take the Crysta.

All in all, it was a pretty easy process for me. I was reading so many different things from how it's permanent, to having to send a letter, to it now being easy as long as you explain yourself. This seems to be the process for now at least. Pretty straightforward. They didn't ask for anything crazy. No explanation is needed. Just the amount I was banned for, being asked to agree to pay it, then a waiting game. Glad it is this easy now because I know before it was essentially a permaban. So if you come across this, I hope it helps and gives you an idea of what the process is like. Quick and painless is what it seems.
