I'm not trying to be a jerk, so please hear me out. I lurk in places like the Balance and always try to learn for this game. I get the purpose of healer DPS in the game. It makes sense. However, I have played as a WHM (Just got my full Eden Set and want to try Savage) as well as my Tanks / BRD/ and casters.
I typically try to keep people near 100% and the tank at 70+ while keeping up my own damage. I personally prefer playing as a WHM vs the Sch because I find it is much easier to do this, but that is neither here nor there. I try to look over my logs but when talking to my FC mate and looking on the balance I was told this
HPS and healing percentiles are a very poor metric to quickly gauge a healer's skill level. Your goal in FFXIV is not to maximize effective healing done, which is what HPS measures, but is rather to deal as much damage as possible, while keeping the party alive. This means healing efficiently (but still safely!) in order to maximize your damage output. HPS doesn't gauge this performance metric at all. In many cases low HPS rankings are better than high ones, but in truth this also isn't always the case. HPS can also vary widely by factors like: • Party comp and use of party mitigation tools • Tank comp and use of tank mitigation • Healer comp and efficient or inefficient use of repsective toolkits
I've tried to put some thought into this but I want to ask the question before trying to become more aggressive as a healer. I have a few questions so I would like some honest responses if people could explain to me.

- Why is having a high HPS (not overhealing but HPS) a bad healer
- Wouldn't it make more sense for me to heal a DPS such as DRG or BLM than for them to move and miss a cast or a positional? I know that on my BLM my avg base hit is easily higher than anything I've hit so far on WHM so for them to move seems more of a DPS loss than what can be achieved by me healing them through it.
- What is considered a normal healthy percentage for people when in a 4/8/24? By this I mean should I start healing when people are at 70%/50% (I understand MedicaII / Regen, but am not sure for SCH/AST).
