During the hunt train I was in just now, we made a few "farlamald" comments about some of the other zones and I made the joke that we should just bribe Lolorito to build more aetherytes.
.... This is not a joke, on second thought. This is a viable nugget of an idea.
1. There are people with absurd amounts of gil and the 50 million gil mounts aren't enough to even take away a fraction of their wealth
2. There is a distinct lack of aetherytes in deep parts of older zones (notably The Lochs) that could stand to benefit from an aetheryte.
3. It is established canon that Lolorito will fund the building of an aetheryte if someone gives him a good enough reason. (Or refuse to build one, and put a giant statue of himself as a final FU. Little shite.)
How this could work:
- Identify the proposed location of 3 aetherytes in older zones on all servers
- Station an NPC project manager there whose sole job is to TAKE CONTRIBUTIONS IN CASH (gil) until a certain, absolutely ridiculous threshold is met. 10 billion gil or something.
- Players contribute gil
- When the threshold is met, an aetheryte will appear for everyone to attune to and use, even if they didn't contribute
- Since there are three options, each server can decide which one they want to focus on. Or if there's a rich egomaniac on each of those servers willing to personally dump 10 billion gil into one to ensure they get the name rights, could have instant unlocks of one and then focus on the other too. (Maybe give a 1 week cooldown to make sure everyone who wants the perma free teleport gets a chance in that case.)
Potential reward tiers for contribution:
-Everyone who contributes at least 10,000 gil will get a "brick" - that is, their name inscribed on the aetheryte. This is how big fundraising projects are done IRL; my husband has a nice brick out in Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta.
------ This is also similar to the Legacy credits from 2.0
- The more gil you contribute, the higher your name is within the top tier
- The names are pulled out into sub menus on the aetheryte: "View the list of contributors who made this possible." Maybe a unique object, similar to a housing visitor's log, that is displayed near the aetheryte instead, if the sub menus get too crowded there.
Broke out into tiers like this:
- 10,000 gil tier: Name only, these ones are alphabetical. These are the "bricks."
- 500,000 gil tier: Name and free teleports to this aetheryte for life, on all servers, once it's unlocked. These ones are alphabetical in the brick list.
- 10,000,000+ gil tier: Instead of the names being listed alphabetically, at this point the names start getting listed by WHO CONTRIBUTED THE MOST GIL. This is where the gil sink aspect comes in. The top 3 contributors, like the legendary backers of a Patreon or a Kickstarter, get their names inscribed ON THE BASE OF THE AETHERYTE so everyone who is on that server sees who donated more money than Teledji Adeledji could even dream of to make it happen.
