I know a lot of people talk about this, but I'm a level 36 Astrologian, just got the class, swapped into it from Black Mage. I'm sure you can imagine the startling difference between the two, lmao. I'm pretty dang nooby when it comes to FFXIV, my black mage is level 55 and that's my highest job.
I want to try to get into the right headspace early on, since I missed out on 30 levels of figuring this class out. With a bunch of dungeon runs, I managed to get into the headspace for healing, but one run with Titan showed me pretty fast that my MP was just GONE before we ever even hit mid health, and that was with Lucid Dreaming and lightspeed on cool down. There was a scary ten seconds where I couldn't cast anything, and we almost lost the tank.
At level 36, what should my headspace be? I think my main issue is I'm spamming Benefic II, but I think I should be spamming Benefic I instead, and then ONLY use Benefic II when it's actually needed, right? That way in the early stages, I'm minimizing MP usage? I know people use other abilities later on as they level up to help with management.
I also have my hotbar on like, "Benefic I, Benefic 2, Essential Dignity, Malefic, Combust, Helios, Esuna, Aspected Benefic". Above it on my secondary hotbar is where I have Draw, Ascend, Lightspeed, and Lucid Dream. I know setups are partly personal choice, but how do folks set up those early abilities? I know I'm doing something wrong with it, it doesn't feel right lmao.
I know the Cards also supply damage buffs- do they supply anything else? It's just damage buffs, right? Balance/Arrow/Spear to DPS/Tank, Bowl/Ewer/Spire to DPS/Healer? Why would I then supply a card to a healer? Also, do other Astrologians rearrange their HUD's so that party health is nearby to their abilities? I constantly forget to draw cards because I'm staring at the party health in the upper left, and realize it's been like three minutes since I drew a card.
I know others have asked stuff like this, but they're always phrased from a late game standpoint (at least, the ones I've seen). I'm still early on. I know the best way to learn is to just do it, but I really like this class and want to do good at it without losing the tank, which generally happens to be my husband TTOTT nothing more stressful than knowing the one person you desperately need to keep alive is your literal husband lmao.
