Spoilers for Shadowbringer MSQ up to 5.2 (Current patch at time of posting)
I posted last week about how Shadowbringers was a rollercoaster- my first impressions after witnessing the sin eater transformation and the messed up kingdom of Eulamore.
And it carried on in the same fashion- some amazing villains and anti-villains. I loved Ran'jit. He was the perfect mixture of badass and batshit. Dedicated, ruthless, and dangerous without seeming like a pointless Gary Stu. He was the serious counterpart to Vauthry's sinister childishness.
I absolutely adored Il Mheg and everything to do with the fair folk- I have always been a fan of Fae, especially Fae portrayed as 'chaotic neutral' in the truest sense, with childlike innocence coupled with that subtle threat of being drowned alive or turned into a living lawn ornament as part of their 'games'.
And Emet-Selch. What an anti-villain. He's the perfect foil- every bit as dedicated and passionate about his ideals and his goals as the main character, sympathetic. I've never felt worse about killing a big bad, while at the same time knowing there was no other way.
And all throughout, tieing it all together, you have the fundamental question of what it means to be a hero. Is it really worth i? Is what you are doing really right?
My one complaint about the story is just how ready to- if not forgive, at least forget- the things that Gaius did. He was responsible for the wholesale slaughter of an Ala Mihgan resistance movement in the events of 1.0- including murdering a close friend of the player character and swinging him around like some kind of grotesque puppet to taunt the player, in addition to his many crimes against Eorzea in ARR.
PS: My reaction to meeting Mini-Filia
PSS: Urianger is such a nerd and I love him, but he needs to learn to swim already.
