Hello reddit,
Like a lot of players, I tried to fish, quite often, but it's such a pain to get proper data about it... Then I discovered cat became hungry, a wonderful website showing a lot of stats about fish, which helped a lot for fishing.
However, I had some issues with this website:
- It has no API (to allow other tools to read the data).
- It has a lot of ads (and if you block them, you get an empty page, so you need an adblocker-blocker-blocker).
- It misses some data we're now using (hookset, tug type, bite time, etc).
- It's entirely closed source, including the reporter app.
All this to say, it's a wonderful tool, which powered more wonderful tools (like garlandtools's fishing data and carbuncleplushy) as people used these graphs to find best way to catch a given fish.
As more and more users in the Teamcraft discord server asked me for an alternative to this, I started working on data capture and data persistence inside an API (that will be public soon, I'm just trying to make it as cheap as possible in order to avoid big bill for other tools' usage).
This is how all this was made, with an api named Gubal.
Starting now, each database page for fish contains the following data:
- Catches per hour of the day
- Baits used, with % of all reports
- Hooksets used, with % usage for each
- Tug types recorded
- Snagging usage %
- Fish eyes usage %
- Mooch usages
- Bite time stats (time between cast and tug, not hook)
- Weathers stats
- Weather transitions stats
- Possible spots for this fish

If you want to contribute some data to it, you just need to install Teamcraft's desktop app (https://ffxivteamcraft.com/desktop) and enable packet capture feature. You can even make it start as minimized inside the settings so you can just start it for that, no need to use it for anything else if you don't want to. The current data rate is around 50K data points per day.

EDIT: and ofc, lke every X.X.0 update, it needs a hotfix for a simple reason: I didn't expect a specific thing in production I'm pushing a hotfix right now so these pages work properly.
