I remember back in 2019, during 5.1 on Crystal, I experienced a frontline (Seal Rock) game that I want to share. Teams were Maelstrom (South side), Adders (North side), Immortal Flames (West side). I was part of Maelstrom.
So here's how it went: We started out badly because our team comp wasn't that great. Our team consists of mostly squishy casters/ranged dps and 2 healers. Every time we grouped together to fight either Adders or Flames head on, we would get pushed back because their comps are better (they had way more melee dps and healers). It also didn't help that the rng tomelith spawn weren't in our favor so there were little opportunities to pinch the enemy team in 1st. However we were able to keep up in points because most of us listened to our 1 shotcaller and had good positioning to avoid getting pinched. As the game progressed and the previous wave of tomeliths all despawn, the game state was about like this:
Adders: 710 pts
Maelstrom: 550 pts (My team)
Flames: 520 pts
800 pts needed to win the game
Map of current game state
It was very tense. At that point we knew that all it takes for Adders to win is to fully capture 1 tomelith. We were waiting at one place our shotcaller marked and hoping for a good tomelith spawn. A moment later, all 4 tomeliths spawn at once at (C2 A-rank, C3 B-rank, B2 S-rank, A3 A-rank). C2 and C3 were near Flames. A3 was our nearest tomelith, B2 was near Adders current position which Flames are too far to reach. I knew it was over because in my mind, in order to win we had to capture A3 and directly wrestle B2 away from Adders. It wasn't possible because we fought Adders twice and they beat our full 24-player team with only 16-18 players. But suddenly I see a marker placed and looked at my alliance chat. Our shotcaller typed:
"go to C marker <se.2>"
"go to C marker <se.2>"
"ignore A3 go thru ocean tunnel to B2"
"ignore A3 go thru ocean tunnel to B2"
Suddenly every single player followed and moved like a train to attack only B2. I thought it was a suicide attack since B2 is close to Adders spawn and Flames will never be able to reach it to attack Adders with us. And Adders only need 1 tomelith so even without B2, they can win with A3. But wait! B2 was guarded with only 5 players.* The other 19 players from Adders went to A3 assuming they would wipe Maelstrom for the faster win! They left only 5 players behind to guard B2.
Map of the current game state
Our entire 24-player team destroyed those 5 players and captured B2. They were completely bamboozled. Adders then panicked so they scattered and came at us one by one. Adders peaked at 785 pts before they lose them with every kill we took. With each kill we also gained 5 pts so about 2 minutes after capturing B2, we won and the chat exploded! We never knew we were going to win that based on the tomelith spawns and bad team comp. We won because our shotcaller came up with an insane strategy and everyone followed thru.
Here's how the map looked like when the game ended
Final score was about:
Adders: 725
Maelstrom: 800
Flames: 740
