Apologies if I tagged this wrong (or over spoiler-marked things). I didn't know if it was more lore-focused or just fluff so I went with fluff just in case. But I just need to get all these references I caught off my chest as a huge FF9 fan.

So, for those who don't know, Hades' first appearance in FF series was FF7 as a summon and then in FF9 as a secret superboss. As I'm sure most are aware, FF14 (and the series as a whole) loooves to pay homage to other bosses, names, figures, concepts, etc. from throughout the games, but I adore the way they weaved in the ones for Hades, and there are several. Spoilers beware!

  • First of all there's the whole you find Hades at the bottom of the ocean in both versions thing, which is the most obvious imo, but there's another layer on top of that. The ocean where he is in FF9 is specifically one inside Memoria, a place created from the conglomerated memories of the planet. And where do we find him in FF14? Inside a spot at the bottom of the ocean where a conglomeration of his memories are made manifest.

  • Also, in both versions you can't just directly walk up to him and press X on the npc labelled Hades to start the fight. He is always hiding and you need to know what to do to meet him.

  • AND if that isn't enough, guess what FF9 Hades was considered the best of the best at (to the point only he could get you certain OP things in-game)? Synthesis, a sort of item creation/fusion power that our good friend FF14 Hades demonstrated he also has in spades just like the rest of his race via Amaurot.

That last part or two is a stretch by itself but, when you stack the similarities altogether in both versions, it really creates such a clever set of references to his OG FF9 appearance. FF9 is my first FF you see so, this all really got my heart good ;v;

Oh and Hades was also supposed to be FF9's final boss at first so, now he gets to be the final boss of ShB instead! I'm not done with ShB postgame so idk if there's even more references to be had but I just can't get over how well they weaved in all those tiny details (or I'm overanalyzing haha, but I still hope this was a fun set of things for people to think about at least).
