I'm talking about the Warrior of Light.....OUR character.
Now, granted, the WoL is no where near as compelling as, say, the twins, Urianger, or Y'shtola. It's just an unfortunate side effect of the situation that can't be avoided. Especially when there can never be a true voice actor for the WoL, and that the WoL can never have any fancy animations like we saw at the end of 5.3 (if you're wondering why we can't, trying to animate a skeleton that can be vastly different in size and shape for any one person with more than just basic movements is a nightmare)
But, that isn't to say that they haven't done one hell of a job. The WoL still has a personality, one that can be made even more real with the players imagination. My own character, Diana, has hardly changed ever since I've used my free bottle of fantasia. Not just because I don't have the money to burn on it, but also because I've played with her enough that she's become her own character in the game, and drastically changing her just doesn't feel right.
The WoL also has their own little quirks that help seal in that personality. The first, and most prominent one that comes to mind is the "stoic nod", something that has become a bit of a meme due to how much it's used. But, it has also become the WoL's most definitive answer, like how we saw at the end of Shadowbringers. If you get the nod, you know, for certain, that shit will get done.
The WoL also isn't perfect. They're terrifyingly powerful, don't get me wrong. And the plot armor can be pretty damn thick. But every now and then, you tend to glimpse some cracks in that armor. The two most notable occasions come from Heavensward, and Shadowbringers. I won't list them here, due to spoilers, but the more experienced people could probably guess what they are.
We fall in love with the Scions time and time again, and for good reason. They are brilliantly written characters, with some of the best voice acting in the industry. But, I also feel that we tend to overlook our own character, and see just how damn fine of a job SE did for writing what is essentially a blank slate.
All in all, it's just another reason given as to why this is one of the best games on the market right now.
