Ability Delay

Did a search but the stuff I found was mostly about connection issues, not what I'm experiencing.

Coming from WoW... so bear with me. I've got a few dozen hours into FF14 and I've played White Mage and Warrior so far (and loving it). I'm still working through Heaven's Ward while helping my significant other level her Lancer, so I'm not exactly rushing through the game but... something's been bothering me.

What's with the delay on pretty much everything that happens in the game? As a white mage I noticed it early that it felt that I was playing with what feels like the equivalent of high latency in WoW. I'd cast cure, it begins to cast, it goes off... and there's maybe a second long delay before the heal actually hits my target. I brushed it off as maybe I was having high latency on a west coast server or something, but later found out that wasn't the case. Now leveling my warrior when I do a pull and notice a monster went stray, I go to taunt it back and the ability goes off and the animation hits but the monster takes a good 3-5 steps before finally turning around ... which can be frustrating because those 3-5 steps make the person the mob was headed towards think they have aggro and they stop casting (whether it be ranged heal or DPS)... which makes me look like a bad tank because they have to stop what they're doing when in reality I was aware of it and got aggro but the game has this weird delay going on.

Is this just something that's ever present and we just have to deal with? Does it alleviate some in later expansions? Again, I'm a WoW refugee and I'm happy to be here, the game is gorgeous and I love the world... but I have to admit WoW feels a lot crispier when using abilities. Any advice to get over this other than just... "deal with, this ain't WoW."

Thanks.
