Elidibus was never meant to be a crucial member of the Convocation, let alone being tasked with saving the world.
The title of Elidibus, an emissary, being assigned to the youngest and most inexperienced member makes perfect sense once you realize that Amaurot was largely a harmonious society with little to no lasting disagreements. Elidibus himself says in his final scene that disunity was a rare occurrence and a fleeting one at that. The title of Elidibus was probably considered the least important one as it was hardly ever needed, and that's why the Convocation could afford to let an inexperienced, albeit talented and dedication, Ancient join their prestigious ranks. That explains why Lahabrea and Igeyorhm tells Elidibus to take it easy. They know the position is a formality at best, and they don't want a kid like a Elidibus stressing too much over a position that isn't of much consequence.
The tragedy is that the one member of the Convocation who was supposed to have the lightest burden ended up carrying the heaviest one. While Loghrif was originally supposed to be Zodiark, it is likely Elidibus was picked because he all but begged to be chosen. Likely none of the Convocation wanted to become Zodiark, and Elidibus was eager because of his naivety and pure-hearted desire to fulfill his duty.
I see Elidibus's tragedy as ultimate proof of how imperfect even the Ancients were. They were so accustomed to their utopian world that they had no idea how to deal with crisis. They never should have allowed Elidibus to become the heart of Zodiark, subjecting an innocent child who just wanted to prove himself to his heroes to eons of pain and sorrow.
