You hear a lot about elitists and edgelords, so I thought I'd share this story from yesterday!
I purchased a skip potion for WHM bc I hate level grinding, and hopped into levelling roulette having finally decided that I was going to overcome my fear of healing. Having only recently gotten serious enough about the game to play it optimally/regularly, I've only levelled ranged DPS(now working on others thankfully) and just got into doing current savage. As 99% of my levelling roulettes have been something like Copperbell Mines recently, I expected it to be a low level dungeon and fairly easy to get through.
Nope. Into the Great Gubal Library I go. Anxiety ensues for the certain railing I'm going to get and I let them know I am a new to healing.
Turns out 2/3 other party members main WHM and took 10 minutes before the pull helping me to make sure I had my hot bar set up correctly, talking me through when and what spells to use, as well as slide casting/dps/not overhealing. The tank starts with small pulls and gradually pulls more mobs to help me practice and get more comfortable, everyone gives me tips in between to help me out. No one gets mad when I die or the tank dies, just offering encouragement and tips.
Ended the dungeon with lots of encouragement, two new friends, and two commendations. Thank you again to the players that helped me out <3 It's definitely helped motivate me to keep going and I can't wait to pay it forward to someone one day.
tl;dr There are far more nice and helpful players than elitist jerks, but they get overlooked because of the bad eggs. Share your df/pf experiences that you've had as well!!
