In the Bozjan Southern Front, the Imperial opposition we fight against is comprised of three divisions: a magitek unit, a unit of mages, and a unit of beastmasters and monsters. I didn't really think much of it at first until I saw the fight against Sartauvoir and noticed his red phoenixes and that seemingly all of these mages deal in pyromancy.
In the world of Final Fantasy Type-0, there are four nations whose crystals each grant them a power unique to their nation. The mage unit with the pyromancers and Sartauvoir's phoenixes just immediately called to mind the nation of Rubrum, comprised of mages and who also happen to be represented by the symbol of the Vermilion Bird. The beastmasters is a bit of a weird comparison to Type-0's Kingdom of Concordia, as they are mostly seen riding dragons but they also have the power to communicate with and control monsters, and you end up fighting against a lot of monsters they send out in missions against Concordia. I figure it wouldn't really make any sense anyway for dragons to be involved with beastmasters in FFXIV given their lore unique to this game, showing they aren't really just average beasts. Then of course there's the magitek unit, on its own I wouldn't have thought much of it at all considering that pretty much every Empire in FF has had technological advancements and weaponizes magitek machinery, and the Milites Empire in Type-0 is no different. But in juxtaposition with the mages and beastmasters and their monsters, it seems to fit the comparison to Type-0's four nations pretty well.
The only nation from Type-0 that isn't represented here yet (as far as I know) would be the Lorican Alliance, a nation of warriors whose crystal granted them immense physique and as such would clad themselves entirely in heavy armor. However in Type-0, this nation in particular is wiped out by the Empire pretty early on in the game, and apart from a few enslaved warriors or one particular Greg cameo who all show up here and there, they don't really have a huge presence in the game. So maybe the lack of a 4th unit is a parallel to that game, maybe they are gonna have a reference later on in the Bozja storyline, maybe their absence from Type-0 didn't really give the FFXIV devs much to draw on or maybe this is all just a complete coincidence somehow.
Just something that's been on my mind a lot lately and haven't really seen anyone else mention.
