Dear Development Team,
As a longtime admirer of Final Fantasy XIV, I write this with deep appreciation for the intricate storytelling, breathtaking worlds, and unforgettable characters you have crafted over the years. However, I must express my disappointment regarding the lack of follow-up for some of the most beloved "waifu"-like NPCs, particularly Queen Sphene from Dawntrail and Meteion from Endwalker. These characters are not only visually stunning but embody the heart of what makes a JRPG character compelling: charm, depth, and emotional resonance.
Sphene, in particular, stands out as an extraordinary addition to Dawntrail. Her role as the Queen of Reason, her connection to the Living Memory, and her endearing personality captivated many players, myself included. Her design is not just aesthetically pleasing but also exudes charisma and warmth, making her the kind of character players would rally around. However, it is disappointing that Patch 7.1 offered no continuation of her story or even a hint of her return. Similarly, after Endwalker's emotionally gripping finale, Meteion's impactful narrative was seemingly shelved, overshadowed by the subsequent voidsent arc, which felt disconnected from the heart of the previous expansion.
This pattern of introducing rich, compelling characters only to sideline them in future content has left a noticeable void in FFXIV’s otherwise stellar storytelling. Characters like Sphene and Meteion deserve meaningful follow-ups. Imagine the excitement if Sphene returned in a future expansion, not only as a narrative figure but as a companion in the vein of G’raha Tia. Her role as an ally could enrich gameplay, deepen emotional connections, and provide fans with the closure they seek.
From a design perspective, Sphene epitomizes JRPG excellence—cute, charismatic, and multi-dimensional. Her potential as a fan-favorite NPC is undeniable, and failing to explore her story further feels like a missed opportunity. I urge the team to prioritize these characters in future expansions, honoring the bonds players have formed with them.
To fellow adventurers, I encourage you to voice your support for characters like Sphene and Meteion. Together, we can show the development team how much these stories mean to us, ensuring future expansions live up to FFXIV’s legacy of unforgettable storytelling.
Thank you for your dedication and for hearing our concerns.
Sincerely,
