Coils here.
Hello! We got our morbol mounts after about 3 hours of A12S. \o/ Here's our clear video for a video showcase of all the strats we used. (I'm the one who died to a Communion puddle last pull! )
This is a BLU-specific guide to A12S, and some of the extremely weird oddities of the fight.
Roles: 1 Tank, 5 DPS, 2 healers.
Spells to take:
Per usual, everyone takes Mighty Guard, Diamondback, White Wind, all the primal spells, some damage GCDs, final sting combo (except MT), healers take heal skills, tank takes The Look, etc. etc.
One DPS (or healer, but we did DPS because we used the same person for Time Gate) needs to make sure to have The Look for adds. Designate this person as the Fake Tank.
One healer needs to make sure to have Frog's Legs and Blood Drain for adds. Designate this person as the Time Off-Tank.
Dragon's Voice is mandatory on every single player. Adds phase.
Every DPS and Healer should take Revenge Blast. Finally, a fight where Revenge Blast is optimal! This is technically optional, but it makes the fight sooooo much faster.
Optional: Take Flying Frenzy if you kinda suck at getting in for Radiant Sacrament.
Other Requirements:
You MUST EAT FOOD. You MUST. This fight is an order of mangitude harder if you do not eat food, because it makes the DPS check harder, it makes the Mega Holy casts able to kill you from full HP if unmitigated, and it makes the time stops able to kill you from full HP if unmitigated (and these are much more annoying to mitigate!)
Tanking is by far the hardest part of the fight. A single mistimed Diamondback is a wipe, and almost no other mistake will kill your team as dead as missing a Heat. You can hear the frustration and pointed reminders in Quill's voice in our clear lol - Diamondback early, Diamondback often, and take Blood Drain!
Assignments:
A Fake tank to take SW gate.
A healer OT to help tank Time.
2 DPS for Time Gates, and 1 healer for Time Gates.
Phase 1:
NOTE: DPS, DO NOT DO MOON FLUTE OPENER HERE. YOU WILL DIE. HILARIOUSLY. It slows the damage down a bit, but it's worth not having
Tank takes first spear with Devour and mitigation. Healers be ready to heal! Diamondback punishing heat.
Next is preys and stack marker - just have the preys diamondback, makes it trivial. They could MG too, but aggro is kinda tight this early on, so be careful with that. If a prey gets the stack marker, they need to diamondback - otherwise, have party stack on Alex's butt.
Next, the Turbo Master Blaster Strategy.
Do not have any mitigation up for this. No breath, no addle, no hammer. Nothing. Two Mega Holy casts come out. Healers, MT, white wind. Heck, if you struggle, have a DPS toss a white wind too. Try to snapshot the heal such that it begins propagating with your full hp, but propagates after the damage hits.
Heal the first Mega Holy, in preparation for the second Mega Holy. DO NOT AOE Heal the second Mega Holy. Just pom cure the MT. DPS, refresh your dots before or during the mega holy casts, depending on how your opener goes. MT, fish for a physical libra during this. Someone throw an Off Guard too.
If everyone ate food, you'll all have just under 23k hp - and with the Mega Holy, you'll be brought down to 2k HP. Get Revenge Blasting for 500 potency per GCD! You'll have 3 GCDs before Sacrament. You do have enough time to Moon Flute, but it's inefficient - I'll explain why in a moment.
Dodge puddles + Sacraments. Save either J-Kick or sprint for it, or take flying frenzy if you find yourself really struggling to get inside for Radiant Sacrament. Do note that J-kick animation locks you for a moment, so don't try to use it to save yourself at the last second! Use it early or not at all - and it's safe the moment the red puddles begin the process of fading into damage puddles.
After Sacrament resolves, MT, diamondback for another spear and Punishing Heat. Try to do it early, so you're free at the start of add phase.
Everyone else, watch the boss's hp - do not push it below 80% until after the cast bar for Punishing Heat appears. The boss will instantly phase if you get it below 80%, and we want to do two things:
1: Guarantee a safe transition, pushing early can leave your tank in DB and unable to tank
2: Push in a few more GCDs worth of Revenge Blasts. You can start casting before the cast bar appears, as long as you don't land them until after it does. We've gotten Alex down to 76-77% doing this, which is frankly gross.
Now, the reason moon flute doesn't work here is because all the damage you do before 80% doesn't matter, as long as you get it to just above 80% - which is trivial to do. But if you moon flute to get 750 potency blasts in during that phase, your tank will die hilariously during add phase.
Phase 2: Adds phase.
Fake Tank DPS, save Swiftcast if you want to use my super safe timings.
MT, always come into adds phase with enough MP to diamondback and Sprint (and optionally swiftcast) up. Have everyone stand slightly off of center in one direction. MT, run up and hardcast White Wind for everybody. Quickly swap over to Youtube and throw on the Benny Hill Music. Then MT, the moment everything starts moving, pop sprint and RUN! Everyone else, make a good race track for them by spamming Dragon's Voice. If your team had weaknesses and you're killing it slightly slowly, swiftcast a diamondback for safety.
Once the first pack of adds die, MT get to slightly off of center. We chose all north, but you can do any direction. This kills one of the adds early, and allows you to just have one person White Wind everyone to full. You all can throw out some Addles too to help, if you'd like. Fake Tank, Time Off-Tank, mighty guards up before the last add dies.
There's a couple strats you can use for this, but you have an enormous amount of time to work with, so we decided to go with a fast kill strat on Might, and a "hope you know how to tank swap lolol" strat for Time.
MT and Time Tank, take Time East, and Fake Tank take Might West.
Might: Our Fake Tank tab-targeted Might the moment it landed, casted 3 looks, then swiftcasted diamondback. This setup perfectly times the diamondback to take the first and second Smashes which are about 9 seconds apart. We had one pom cure thrown on the Fake Tank, followed by 6-man Moon Flute bursts. We consistently either got it low enough to kill very quickly or killed it outright. In our clear, it didn't quite die fast enough, and I was the Fake Tank, so I decided to pull a swag strat and, while tanking him, dropped mighty guard to kill him. Don't do that, it was really dumb - just diamondback again.
Time: MT, take first Half-Gravity. OT, Frog's Legs. Throw one GCD (either exuviation if you two are low, or a blood drain otherwise) and then be ready to diamondback. MT, frog's legs, throw a GCD or two, diamondback. Do this back and forth forever. (Well, at least for 5 or 6 busters.) Remember that Frog's Legs is Ultimatum, and not Provoke - you will steal back aggro very easily if you try to do damage after the other uses Legs! There is a pro strat you can do if you have absurdly good diamondback timing - the Half-Gravities come out every 9.7 seconds, so you can, technically, and I've done it twice in a row, spend two diamondbacks on one Half-Gravity. But it's insane to try to do it consistently - so we just make a healer share it to make the fight way safer.
The reason you can't just have the MT diamondback everything is because unless you're doing the perfect diamondback strats described above, you will need 5 or 6 diamondbacks, which is 15000 or 18000 MP - and the MT is probably not coming into this with full MP, let alone nearly double full MP. You don't get a lot of GCDs to blood drain or hammer, so you'll die if your party takes too long - but the fake tank will also die if the party takes too long, so it's very tricky to try to do.
Once might's down, you're basically free to kill Time in whatever time frame you want. It's an absurdly low DPS check from this point, so blood drain up, throw on some dots, kill it at a relaxed pace.
Diamondback the raid buster. You don't really need to Mighty Guard it, so save the 700mp and risk of forgetting to turn off mighty guard.
Phase 3: Time Stops
DPS, feel free to open this fight with a Moon Flute opener - but if you do, save sprint!
Do damage during Chronofoil. When the timestop starts casting, look at your buffs and run out. Healers, Mightyy Guard up. Toss some mitigation on Alex - Bad breath will last about long enough if tossed near the start, while addle/hammer should be used right at the end. We did Defamations E/W/S, tether to 1 north of boss (restrainings south), shared + unmarked 2 for ours.
Next, Sacraments - for regular sacrament, dodge and get in ASAP, and for Radiant, dodge, sprint in or J-kick in. Either way, once it's done, Top off EVERYONE. No gobskins, no mitigation. Why?
That's right! Mega Holy! If everyone's full HP and topped off, you're dropped to about 2k hp and will be able to throw Revenge Blasts out for a solid 20 seconds! And that's right - DPSes actually have enough time to Moon Flute, so flute uip and spam Revenge Blasts! Note:If you are a DPS or healer going in the Time Gates, please save primal spells. just spam Revenge Blasts here. MT, watch this time for spear + Heat + spear - mitigate and single-target heal these!
When timestop's starting, everyone should top off - we had MT + a healer who pom'd themselves heal everyone. Timestop 2 is like timestop 1, only with 2 defamations and more tethers. Handle these appropriately (restrainings separate, christmas tethers together, shared sentences stacking too, Defamations E/W/S), then handle the opposite Sacrament of the first one. Group in, heal, and DPSes, try to pop your moon flutes early for this - like as Mega holy is casting, or even earlier. Spam Revenge Blasts! Next will be Time Gates.
Phase 4: Time Gates
Assigned people will go into gates. Get aggro ASAP. Inside DPS, kill your mob and move Counter-Clockwise to the SW (move east when facing the center), so you can save the Fake Tank and get their DPS for the healer mob.
Fake Tank, use The Look, then wait for Smash's castbar and cast Diamondback. After the first one, the second one comes out about 20 seconds in, so you have a bit of time to GCD - but save Swiftcast to Diamondback if he surprises you with his cast bar! Play it very, very safe!
Healer, just self-spam Pom Cure and weave in primal spells between Gravities.
Outside team, Diamondback the stack marker, diamondback Alex's busters, and drop crystals in appropriate off-corner spots for Inception.
Once the inside adds are killed, you'll pop out and there will be a bit of time for DPS before Inception.
Phase 5: Inceptions
Next is Inception - if you placed crystals correctly, you can watch where Alex is going to appear, and dodge Sacrament by going left/right. Be sure to be far away from him for Tetrashatter, it can easily kill you if you're too close. J-kick or sprint under him for Radiant. Party, stand directly behind him - MT, tank him where he is. Watch Heat, and then he'll do a stack marker + gravitationals. If you're standing right behind Alex, the entire party can move center and take the stack while dodging gravitiy puddles. Next, Inception 2. Mighty Guard up for this.
You get time stop mechanics during an inception dodge. We did Defamation + Restraining Fars left, House Arrest + Shared Sentence + Restraining Nears right. Watch your buffs, find your partner, and move accordingly, but only AFTER Alex locks himself in position! Be sure to stand far away from him as well, or Tetrashatter will kill you!
After the buffs resolve, move under Alex for Radiant Sacrament, then do the same Gravitational Anomaly movement.
Final Phase: But only if you want
Next, Alexander will... Summon Alexander. Communion puddles will spawn. Two strats for these - Diamondback or doing it legit. Have the MT and a DPS or healer Diamondback these puddles, and have someone top them off between pulse 1 and 2, or they will die. Puddle 2 does about 10k through diamondback, and puddle 3 does 15k through diamondback. Alternatively, just have 3 people take the puddles normally with Mighty Guard. They're really not that hard.
But we didn't really see Communions much, because we just murdered Alex at this point. 7-man Final Sting from 9%. If we didn't have 2 deaths, we would've murdered him before Summon Alexander. If you're doing Revenge Blast strats, you'll kill him well before tethers very, very easily! We did it even with 2 Final Stings under weakness!
And that's all the guide I've got in me. Let me know if you have any questions!
celebration!
